Medical Abolition View Sparks Lincoln Debate in Worcester
In Worcester Massachusetts Dr Cheever addressing the Fremont Club blasts President Lincoln over emancipation and war aims arguing Lincoln offered slavery to rebels and to free three million enslaved people only if the seceded states rejoin the Union. Prisoner handling sparks notes from Paris and Branca
Paria correspondent reports Capt Winslow of the Kearsarge was urged to land prisoners in Branca. The American Minister is quoted on French law, saying once aboard a French pilot boat the Alabama’s captives are effectively in France and released by law.
