Late last night a man disguised as a laborer with a pick was halted at the Surcott residence. On facial examination he proved to be a different man, claiming the name Payne. The servant confirms the suspect resembles the man who allegedly attacked Secretary Seward’s residence, with hopes others at Seward’s house may recognize him.
