A Connecticut contest prolongs a week with conservatives rallying as supporters claim the tide turns in favor of Seymour. The piece criticizes abolitionists and the administration while contrasting prices under different governments and urging labor with a foreboding note on goods costs.
A friend reports meeting a city abolitionist with three armed men on a return trip from the country on Tuesday afternoon. They claimed they were out practicing. Another eyewitness says Perry Alexander was shot at three miles from the city after leaving a Democratic meeting on Monday evening. the assailants were three African Americans.
Bermuda advices up to March 25 report the steamer Columbia from Washington with 31 bales of cotton arriving at St George's. The Gen. Beauregard from Charleston brought 560 bales of cotton to St George's. Confederate flags flown. Capt. Warner of Laura Ann arrived after a skirmish with the Florida, which seized 27 prisoners from Stir of Peace. The Vanderbilt pursued the Florida, which had left Barbadoes with supplies. The Florida reported being chased by Vanderbilt. the Vanderbilt gave chase at speed. Florida left Carlisle Bay February 25 and took coal and provisions. The Vanderbilt, under Hay, arrived March 6 and sailed again. Demarora orders bar privateers Alabama from supplies. U.S. considers letters of marque law. Union reports and military actions unfold across Virginia and surrounding waters.
A Havana letter notes that Alabama is reported lost, while a New Orleans dispatch claims Pensacola has been evacuated. Some troops moved to New Orleans and others to the navy yard and forts. Before departure, several houses were burned in town.
A New Orleans rouler reports Pensacola burned except Mallorys and Major Chases dwellings while evacuation appeared intent. Fires raged three days with officers unable to stop arson, Col. Dyer ordering shootings that were not enforced. The Star of Peace cargo burned totals about half a million value, insured for 183300. The Bulletin notes renewed battle near Greenwood between Chillicothe and DeKalb with unclear effect. Gen Hamilton contemplates resignation while reviewing troops. transport logs suggest troop movements.

His speech was received enthusiastically and a report says Lord Lyona will demand the release of the steamer Peter Hoff with owners seeking indemnity. Mail overhauls may reveal details, and a large quantity of quining was noted in her cage.
