Four Great New England Statesmen Laid to Rest
The New York Journal of Commerce recalls John Quincy Adams Daniel Webster Rufus Choate and Edward Everett as four of New England’s greatest statesmen and patriots. Adams died February 23 1848 at age 80 near the nation’s capital. Webster died October 24 1852 at Marshfield aged 70. Choate died July 1849 in Halifax while bound for Europe. Everett died at 70, close in age to Adams, with their graves in Mount Auburn or nearby.
