The issue lists mineral Point and Platteville branch stops and north south train times with noted indeterminate reads. It reports local meetings, religious outdoor services in Grant county, a republican caucus in Dodgeville, and community notes on plums yields, crops, a baseball game, river improvements, counterfeiters case in Monroe, and transfer of Lancaster Democrat editorship.
A Mifflin and Clifton railroad meeting, chaired by Joseph Allen, considered building a line from the M P R R below Mineral Point through Mifflin to the Wisconsin River and thence to Tomah and the Northern Pacific. Proposals pledge 200000 from towns, with completion aimed for November this year to Mifflin and January 1873 to the river, though tax support divided.
The Ephors Chronicle reports a Connectional Camp Meeting set for September 14 at the Dobson farm grove near Mifflin. Stalls for traffic are banned without a committee permit. ministers, members, and friends are urged to attend.
In August 1871 Highland near Dodgeville reports brisk growth with new buildings and a hoped for railroad. The town mourns Barney Kruser a 43 year old German farmer who died from a fall while stacking grain after a lengthy illness in mind and body. His burial drew a large crowd on Saturday.

Announcement for the second annual fair of the Industry Association to be held in Mineral Point on September 6 7 9. Emphasis on stock grain fruit and agricultural implements for exhibition and a first class event with preparations underway.
In this village on the 23rd of July Mrs. Joanna Bishop aged nearly seventy died. She was born at Norton Derbyshire England.
A dated shopping ledger fragment shows prices for flour currants butter dried apples raisins eggs prunes potatoes onions whitefish Mackeral cod fish tea coffee lard and sugar. Entries include weights units and small total lines with several sums and stray numbers.
