Illinois hospital performs first double lung transplant
Maywood Illinois Loyola University Medical Center completed a six hour double lung transplant on Saturday, the first in Illinois. The patient Theodore Piascyk 42 of LaMoille was in critical but stable condition Monday night. Piascyk suffered from alpha one anti trypsin deficiency and had waited on Loyola’s list since June. Worldwide there have been about 20 double lung transplants.
