Five Children Die in Sauk Village House Fire
A fast moving fire in a Sauk Village ranch home killed five children and their mother Christine Ireland, 27, and injured others. Neighbors recalled flames from the windows as firefighters from neighboring communities battled the blaze from about 10:30 a.m. The cause was undetermined, with no lightning evidence, and the medical examiner planned to determine origin. Two children died on arrival at St. James Hospital and Medical Center. another died shortly after emergency treatment.

Bennett jury still deliberating on first degree murder charges
Carroll County jurors continued deliberations in the first degree murder case against Kathy Joanne Bennett after requests for legal definitions and theory of accountability. The 12 jurors, seven men and five women, heard evidence about Carrie Mae Duncan, 80, found beaten and stabbed near Paw Paw. Bennett faces natural life if convicted on seven counts.

Just Say No parade kicks off weeklong anti drug events
The Second Annual Just Say No to Drugs parade starts at 10 a.m. lining up Seventh Street and Peoria Avenue with about 2300 Lee County students. It travels to Dixon High School with 40 cars and bands and ends at the band shell beside the school.
