Illinois Lobby Day draws 2000 to 3000 to Springfield
A record 2000 to 3000 people from Lee Center Walnut Nelson and Mt. Morris districts gathered on the Capitol steps in Springfield to urge lawmakers to fund Illinois schools. Walnut Superintendent Larry Eggleston cited support for a 1 percent sales tax increase potentially raising nearly $1 billion for school funding while Governor James Thompson endorsed raising the income tax to fund education.

Riverboat Rose of Rock River to set sail in August
Oregon owners Carol and Mike Maust unveiled plans for The Rose of Rock River a new riverboat costing over 1 million dollars. The 101 by 32 foot vessel weighs 100 tons and seats 150 guests. It will tour the Rock River from Oregon to Byron and back with Coast Guard certification.

Dixon senior Brent Bowman named to Sousa National Honors Band
Dixon High School senior Brent Bowman earned selection to the Sousa National High School Honors Band, a 100 plus member national ensemble. He travels to Washington D C for rehearsals and Saturday concert, playing B flat or bass clarinet as needed. Bowman has extensive musical involvement at DHS and comes from a family with U S Air Force ties. He plans to study at Northern Virginia Community College after graduation and may pursue electronics or music as a career.
