SVCC Enrollment Edges Up at Board Meeting

SVCC saw a 1 percent rise in head count and 3 percent in credit hours for the spring 1990 semester, with total enrollment at 2,478 up from 2,454. President Dr. Richard Behrendt cited more full time students and a 20,000 plus credit hours for the term, noting growing local high school graduate attendance and recent program adjustments.

Old courthouse work softens traffic plan in Sterling

Workmen from Associated Asphalt and Prescott Construction remove dirt from the northwest corner of the old Lee County Courthouse on Monday afternoon. Oregon set to recycle program to start March first

California Drives Population Boom Despite Local Loss

California continues to attract residents with the fastest growth rate in over 25 years. As of July 1, 1989, the state held 29.1 million people, 2.6 percent higher than a year earlier, outpacing New York by 11.1 million. Los Angeles remains the largest county, Riverside is the fastest grower, while San Francisco lost population to 727,400.

Free tax help opens in Lee County through AARP

Free income tax service begins January 30 for Lee County residents meeting income or disability criteria. Sponsored by AARP Tax-Aide, volunteers trained by the IRS will prepare simple federal and Illinois returns. In Dixon at the Senior Citizen Center from noon to 3 30 p m Tuesdays until April 3. In Amboy on February 20 and March 20, same hours at the Jaycee Building. Sharon A Thompson Lee County coordinator says the program targets elderly and low income residents and more than 100 people were helped last year. Bring last year’s returns and current tax year forms W 2s and other income documents. For details call 288 6673.
