Washington UPI Reagan's final full day in office was emotional hectic and humorous. He pardoned 10 men awarded two diplomats and met with George Bush in the Oval Office. He joked about a tag sale and received a standing ovation from congressional leaders and Cabinet members. Bush praised Reagan as his teacher and friend in a farewell gathering.

Wild deer rampage causes chaos in Dixon streets
In Dixon three deer roamed the town for about 45 minutes causing windows to shatter and panic. One deer was herded from Rock River by a rescue boat near Page Park while others fled toward Jefferson School and the woods near Page Park. No injuries were reported among people or deer, and firefighters and police wrapped up after multiple rescues.

Dixon Post Office sells a full color tri fold commemorative folder for 4.95 marking the 200th anniversary of the presidential inauguration. It features the Presidential seal seven inauguration souvenirs including cancellations and birthplace or residence locations for Bush and Quayle along with Blair House postal card. Dixon Postmaster Larry Minniear says only 100 folders were received and once sold out they are gone.

State board seeks 2 billion for Illinois schools
State School Superintendent Ted Sanders said Chicago school reforms face serious jeopardy without more funding as the State Board of Education adopts a budget calling for 2.938 billion in state funds for next year.
