State to halt public viewing of Indian burial exhibit
The Illinois plan to close public access to the Indian burial exhibit at Dickson Mounds Museum citing heightened sensitivity to displaying human remains. The exhibit of 237 Indians from 800 to 1,000 years ago will remain as part of the museum but shut to visitors starting February 1. Museum officials say protests elsewhere influenced the decision though no local group protested. State Rep. Tom Homer warns closures could financially cripple Fulton County’s premier tourist site.
