Spirit of helping shines in Chicago on Christmas Day
Thousands in Chicago volunteered and donated as shelters and charities reported full capacity for holiday events. Turkeys and toys were stolen, sparking a surge of new donations to aid about 400 needy families. Volunteers served meals to hundreds of homeless at multiple centers and provided to go meals and warm clothing. A newborn girl found abandoned near Maywood hospital was named Christi Eve and listed in fair condition with frostbitten feet. Families of two children who received the nation’s first and second live donor liver transplants celebrated Christmas.
