Commonwealth Edison still cannot explain the downtown and north Dixon power outage that struck at 6 p m. The blackout affected most residents for 45 to 50 minutes with some without power up to two hours. Street lights in the town center were off. ComEd confirmed a failed cable that grounded itself caused the outage but the reason for the cable failure remains unknown.
