Ashton builder tops Chicago Loop pole building milestone

Stan Griffith, 63, owner of Consol Builders & Supply in Ashton, received the Building of the Year Award from Wick Building Systems for supplying pole building materials used in the 60 story AT&T World Headquarters project in the Chicago Loop. The landmark structure faced high winds and was built across from the Sears Tower. Griffith noted the loop project was the first pole building sold there and cited prior work at Byron Nuclear plant and projects in Texas and Ohio.

Griffith and WICK built a 54 by 72 foot roof only temporary cover in the center atrium to shield the 17 story atrium during construction. The structure withstood 100 mph winds and could be partly disassembled for interior material lowering. Hoisted over the 54th floor by crane, the feat set a height record and remains part of the AT T World Headquarters.
