William Reilly announces his bid for the office of Town Collector in Dixon at the upcoming April election. He seeks support from residents and outlines his plan to manage town finances and tax collection.
Friends are invited by the High School pupils on Friday evening March 23 1888 to a Dickens Party in the South Side drawing rooms. Admission is 15 cents with refreshments featuring character sketches in costume plays dialogues charades and songs.
An assortment of items including medical patent remedies and ads, real estate notes, seeds and goods. civic notices on taxes and business progress. social events, weddings, obituaries, and local travel. plus brief reports on nearby towns, legal matters, and notable arrivals and departures.
A newspaper notice urges buyers to snap up Dr Bigelow's Positive Cure from D S Horton, claiming it promptly cures coughs colds and throat and lung diseases. It warns that many imitate the remedy and that some druggists profit from fakes by selling inferior versions. Price is 50 cents.
The notice promotes Wasuina Machines as the best washer available at J Rosbrook's Hardware Store on Main Street Dixon. It also advertises Illinois Valley coal and lime and Milwaukee cement at low prices from I Means, located one block below the bridge on Water Street.

The Republican state convention will be held in Springfield May 2. Miss Cornelia Coleman yesterday accompanied her uncle Charles Coleman to Rockford. E M McCune, injured at Grand Detour plow works fire, is back in business. The river rose five inches last night and looks copper colored. Amelia MecCumsey returned from De Moines Iowa last Friday. The temporary bulkhead at the mill race lower end burst yesterday with no serious damage. Leonard Andrus and Fred Watson plan to build cottages near Riverside Shoe Factory.
