Brown Lynch deer killing case dismissed by judge

The case against Brown Lynch for killing a deer out of season was dismissed by Judge Furniss at Laytonville this week due to the absence of the prosecution's main witness. R B Dimmick, who was very ill last week, is improving.

First Graders Plan Halloween Party by 7th Grade Club

Twelve students from the seventh grade form the K Q Club and host a barn dance at the Scholl home with Miss Scholl as chaperone. Estate contest ends with Darr compromise on ranch land

The Nancy estate dispute concluded last Tuesday with Darr receiving about 100 acres south of the main ranch. Sallie Hines was named contestant and the other heirs received the remaining property and will assume the mortgage of 8700 held by M. Carey senior.

Walker vs Smith case decided for defendant

Judge White ruled for defendant Smith in Walker v Smith, a legal victory for attorney K C Eversole over Olin F Berry. Four daughters of Anna J Smith sued to set aside a deed to son A L Smith, alleging undue influence. Smith claimed 26 years of support and entitlement. Jury was summoned but venire discharged at plaintiffs' request.

Armistice Day Ball Plans by Lewis White Post

Plans by Lewis White Post of the American Legion for the Armistice Day Ball to be held November 11. The Hotel Oakland orchestra will provide music and the Ladies Auxiliary will handle decorations. Body of soldier brought to Fort Bragg

The body of C. W. Manchester, Mendocino county’s first locally killed overseas, was brought to the United States this week and will be interred at Fort Bragg, where his parents reside. Manchester belonged to the 20th Ha Bineers.

Anderson couple celebrate silver wedding anniversary

Eureka Express Collides With Boulder On Track

Trains from Willits to Eureka hit a boulder dropped from a bluff near Woodman station north of Dos Rios after late rains. The impact tore off the cowcatcher and air brake gear under the mail and express cars, but the locomotive stayed on the rails and the baggage car remained on track above a near 100 foot drop to the river.

Gas Plant Troubles Persist With Low Oil Gravity

The gas plant remains troubled as the oil gravity is too low for use without heating. A coil of steam pipes is being installed to remedy the issue. Officials expect the plant to be in order within about a week, with the coil addressing the main difficulty.

BOOMVILLE October 20 Rumors of a railroad through Anderson valley in the near future boost Anderson valley realty. Southern Pacific and Santa Fe spent about 14000000 securing timber lands in the area. L L Hopkins reports two more sales this week. Albion Lad Kills Large Black Bear

Albion Ridge, Oct 20 The 12 year old son of Mr and Mrs George Mc Merphy killed a large black bear near his parents home last week after three bears had ravaged nearby orchards. The boy, returning from school, fetched his gun and dog and brought down the bear with a well aimed shot through the shoulders then killed it with a second shot.
