Eastern Star installs 1916 officers at Point Arena
Point Arena chapter No. 291 of the Order of the Eastern Star installed its 1916 officers Tuesday evening December 14. Flora Hunter presided, installing Minnie Warren as worthy matron with Vera Kingren as marshal. Rev. B H Baker named chaplain. The ceremony featured a decorated room, music by Lydia Howe on piano and J W Kingren on violin, and a festive recess followed by pomp and brief performances. Last Thursday evening the men of St. John's M. E. church were entertained in the Sunday school rooms. W Meyer of the local observatory gave an interesting lecture on the Planets. A colonial banquet followed around eight. Several local men spoke, and the gathering adjourned about ten.

County Sealer Condemns Scales at Hospital
H. H. Brown, County Sealer of Weights and Measures, visited Ukiah last week and the first of this. He tested the scales at the state hospital in Talmage and condemned two spring scales and one platform scale which were destroyed. The large track scales were found misread and must be readjusted. The rest of the scales at the institution, over a dozen, were OK.
