Woman 19 Shoots Self Near Westport in Tragic Death
Mrs Thelma Sperry aged 18 years 8 months and 13 days committed suicide with a 32 caliber pistol at Howard creek near Westport Sunday afternoon after returning from a dance. She was married to Ole K Sperry of Oakland and left behind husband father Edward Cox four brothers Louis Edward Jesse James and a sister Mrs Edith White. The death occurred about 1 p m and she lived about an hour.

Bootleg Joint Raided on Eel River by Prohibition Team
Sheriff Byrnes with Oscar Weger and Al McCabe raided a river area above Potter Valley last Wednesday. They arrested the Grock brothers on charges of manufacture and possession of intoxicating liquors. Officers found a still and a supply of beer wine and jackass brandy. Some liquor was brought to town for evidence and the rest destroyed. The liquor was freshly bottled and corked and prepared for Christmas trade.

Three Granges Unite In Meeting At Ukiah
A joint meeting of Ukiah Redwood Valley and Potter Valley Granges was held in K P hall Ukiah last Friday evening to initiate fourteen candidates to the third and fourth degrees. Totter Valley degree team conducted the initiation with 125 guests attending a post session banquet. The three lodges will install officers in January with state officers invited to attend.

Mittone's Victim Dies. Guilt Suspect Held For Trial
James Haddelrigg died at Willits on Monday after being struck by a car driven by A. Mittone near Coolidge flat on the Redwood highway the previous Wednesday. Mittone faces a manslaughter charge with bail set at $16,000 by Judge E. G. Buseli. Reports of a shotgun confrontation with highway employees are denied by the sheriff. Haddelrigg's death is attributed to pneumonia from shock and injuries in the collision.

Rainfall totals and coldest temp of the season
The Dispatch notes rainfall since last week reached .76 inches, bringing the season total to 16.72 inches. The coldest temperature recorded so far this season was 33 degrees on Tuesday night.
Water over big fill on Lake County highway
Upper Lake December 8. Water covered the Graham fill on the Ukiah highway by about 18 inches. Three cars attempting to cross became confused and edged toward the bank as waves washed over the road. One occupant waded to dry land and sought help at the fair grounds. A rescuer returned to pull the stranded motorists aboard and guided them to Ukiah.

Theodore Copsey Dies In Ukiah After Illness
Theodore Copsey a Ukiah resident for twenty years died last Monday after several weeks of illness. Born in Missouri on July 18, 1845 he was over 81. He crossed the plains at age nine and settled in Lake County before moving to Ukiah. Survived by three sons Piss Charles Wright and two daughters Mrs Della White and Mrs Dora Tibbitts. Funeral held from Cleland Funeral Home in Ukiah Wednesday.

The Camp Fire Girls and the Boy Scouts join the local Anti-Tuberculosis Association drive to sell Christmas seals. Louis Hofman chairs with Mrs. F. E. Rea Dr. Donald R. Smith Mrs. J. H. Hansen and Miss Catherine Fuller on the committee. This county’s first year of the drive runs through Christmas. Seventy-five percent funds preventive work locally and twenty-five percent aids state and national efforts. Last year $136 was raised locally, the year before $106.

Robt Bucknell Suffers Stroke of Paralysis
Upper Lake December 8. Mrs Tom Perry arrived from Oroville and Mr Bucknell’s daughter Maude McKenna from Lakeport rushed to his bedside as the aged man endured his third stroke Friday morning. He was unconscious most of Friday, then showed slight improvement Monday though recovery is doubtful due to age and prior attacks.
