Famed Spud King Starts Harvesting at Irvine Ranch
Beaverhead's famed potato kings Irvine and Cottom begin their annual seed potato storage and harvest at their ranch near Dillon. So far 20 carloads of the 1939 crop have been dug as wet weather delayed picking. The season aims for about 120 carloads with 60 pickers plus diggers and handling crews working to store spuds in Dillon. Visitors from across the potato world, including Dr Henry Darling and F M Harrington, inspect fields while early plots for next years planting are unearthed. Peak yields of up to 52 bushels per acre were reported in current harvest regions.

County Sells Lands Taken By Tax Deeds
County officials deem the Thursday sale of lands seized by tax deeds satisfactory. Auctioneered by Colonel Luther Smith, real estate from across the county brought in 6612.02 dollars including redemptions as Albert Baker, clerk and recorder, read land descriptions.
