Forged-Check Suspect Nabbed After Street Deception
Phillip Bogden aged 30 was arrested Sunday after passing forged checks around town. He allegedly signed the name of his employer J. C. Ferguson on two checks for 60 and 17 dollars, given to Dillon merchants.

High School Class of 1938 Sees Large Move to Higher Learning
Beaverhead county high school reports 27 of 53 graduates plan college or specialized training. Beaverhead celebrates Elizabeth Roe the county’s first woman to earn a law degree and be admitted to practice. The Bedrock native, a Davis UW graduate, will become law librarian at UW Law School. The Presbyterian church in Dillon marks its fiftieth anniversary September 15 22 with events starting September 15 including a Manse Society meeting and a reception for new pastor Dr Paris H Wells. A jubilee sermon by the pastor will close the week on September 22 with Ellen May guild meeting. George R Featherly, a Dillon pioneer, has served on the session for 40 years.

Gallant Named Coach and Physical Education Director
Ray Gallant of the Montana School of Mines was appointed coach and director of physical education at Montana State Normal college, starting autumn quarter. He succeeds Herbert Kakuske who resigned to return to Wisconsin after several years. Gallant is a versatile athlete with state honors in diving swimming handball and basketball.

Registration Open for Bond Election Ends September 15
Voters must register by September 15 to participate in the September 30 bond election. Albert S. Baker, county clerk and recorder, announced that those on the 1957 tax rolls who were qualified electors may vote on the $165,000 bond to finance a new county high school building.

National Resources committee report analyzes 300000 families in 30 states from 1935 to 1936. It finds national income near $60 billion and 41 million consumer units, with 14 percent of families under $500 yearly and 70 percent receiving no relief. Sycamore WPA Worker Injured In Gravel Pit Fall
Ellis Colvin a 46 year old WPA shovel operator in Sycamore fractured his wrist after losing balance while resting his chin on the shovel. He sought federal workers compensation as a result of the industrial accident. In Washington the Social Security board approved a new state aid program for the indigent aged and dependent children with Virginia receiving 14,000 and the nation totaling 1,721,000.

Miller Named County Wheat Crop Supervisor at Meeting
At a county agricultural committee meeting last Saturday H. M. Miller was chosen to replace T. H. DuBois as county wheat crop supervisor. The committee extended winter wheat crop insurance applications from August 30 to November 20 and reminded applicants to send forms to committee members or Bernard Williams, county agent. The new federal crop insurance covers a designated percentage of average yield against losses from flood, hail, drought, wind, tornado, pests, and diseases, with premiums paid in wheat or cash or stored wheat for payments.

Conditions at High School Are Outlined
Dillon Rotary club heard Dillon High School principal Conrad Orr describe the need for a new Beav erhead county high school building to replace the obsolete plant. He traced enrollment growth from 2 in 1892 to 300 plus this year and warned that current classrooms in attics and on the fourth floor lack adequate fire exits ventilation and lighting.

Big Hole National Monument Draws Montana Visitors
The Big Hole Battlefield at Gibbons drew 2400 visitors since June with a peak 485 on September 4 for the old timers program. Mary A. Shaw led a mass meeting of Big Hole Road members to discuss road project progress, a recreational park near the battlefield, and further monument improvements.

Sheriff Paul Temple and deputies arrested former employee George Johnson at a local hotel two hours later for questioning. Evidence found includes a red stocking cap and tracks near a railroad path.
