Pope County Illinois faced a summer dysentery epidemic with up to five deaths in a day. Walter Brothers of Waltersburg sold over 380 bottles of Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, claiming it never failed when directions were followed. The remedy was the sole medicine used that cured severe cases after doctors had given up. Bottles priced 25 and 50 cents sold by N. M. White.
