Martin Barrett A Pioneer With Generous Hospital Plan
Beaverhead county residents honor Martin Barrett a rugged pioneer who settled on Horse Prairie in 1862 with Joseph Shineberger. He built a cattle and dairy business, retired ten years ago, and now funds a modern hospital to serve the needy in Beaverhead county with a seven and a half acre site donated by the State Bank of Dillon and an endowment from former partners and Mrs William Roe. The hospital will be open to all regardless of race religion or sect and operate without salaried staff or doctors.
