Timely talks at Dillon Rotary session

Three Dillon educators spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner at the Metlen hotel. Dr Sheldon E Davis of Normal College discussed earthquake observations in Helena and a Montana Education Association meeting in Great Falls. Superintendent Charles Henry reported on the Anaconda district meeting. Dr Robert E Albright covered the Miles City eastern division gathering and naval plans.

Deer Hunters Bag Bucks Near Cars After Long Journeys

Two unusual deer stories report hunters returning from hills to their cars with kills. Ben Stranahan of Butte supposedly shot a fine buck from his vehicle in the Horse Prairie area. Fred Houston of the local telephone exchange glimpsed a deer while scouting after a long hunt near the Argenta district.

Montana Board Approves College Loan for Dormitory Upgrades

Montana board of education in special session Monday approved a federal loan and grant totaling 118,118 dollars for improvements at three dormitories of the State Normal College in Helena. About 100,000 dollars is a loan with the remainder as grant. funds will rehabilitate facilities and purchase equipment for the college.

Sacred concert draws Dillon and Butte crowd at St Rose church

The Sunday afternoon sacred concert at St Rose Catholic church drew a large audience from Dillon and Butte. The program featured vocal solos by Fritz Lenz J C Jeppson Margaret McMahon Hugo Kenck Dr W H Stephan Mrs J Cummins Ray Lahiff Mildred Spaberg chorus selections a quartet led by Mrs Jeppson Mrs W G Gilbert Dr Stephan H D Jewett piano solos by Marguerite Collins Accompanists included Miss McHale Miss Collins Mrs T Sargent and Ralph McFadden with violin obbligato by Mrs Beryl Green.

City to Open Free Skating Rink at Dillon Fair Grounds

Mayor D A Galt and officials approve a community winter project for a free ice rink inside the fair grounds. Harold M Johnson and local supporters plan flooding from a city hydrant with fire department supervision and evening lighting from Mayor Galt, while civic groups supply sworn supervisors to ensure order.

The Beaverhead County Federation of Women held its twenty-third semi annual meeting in Wise River on October 26 at 10 30 with 26 delegates and visitors. Highlights included talks on nursing service milk care and health problems, plus cultural discussions and a tribute to women.

Episcopal Women Hold Convention In Dillon District

A large gathering of Episcopal women from Dillon Twin Bridges Sheridan Virginia City Ennis Jeffers and the Big Hole basin met Thursday at St James guild hall for the annual district convention. Mrs Frank Hasking state president led the afternoon program and Mrs T E Gilbert district president presided at lunch and business session. The conference opened with a corporate communion at St James church.

Elmo Winn Captures Wildcat Title In Canyon Hunt

Elmo Winn of this city wins the Wildcat Winn title after bagging three wildcats in McKnight canyon near Dell last Sunday during a deer hunting trip. He sighted a mother cat and two half grown kits. the mother and one kit were killed with the first shot and the other kit with the second. Pelts have been sent away for tanning.

John W Noonan Dies After Illness at Galen Sanitarium

Dillon mourns the death of John W. Noonan born January 27, 1886 in Noonan Missouri. He came to Beaverhead County in 1908 and held posts from ranch work to the Dillon Steam Laundry and later manager at Murray Motor in Butte before retirement. He survived by his father a brother and several sisters and extended family in Missouri Nevada and Centennial valley.

Blizzard Of Season Hits Dillon On Tuesday

Dillon residents awoke to a blizzard with a sharp drop in temperatures across western Montana. City readings ranged from 10 to 8 below zero, while areas like the Grasshopper and Big Hole reported sub zero levels. The Beaverhead county high school thermometer registered 11 below zero for the season Tuesday night.

Display of Potatoes Attracts Interest At Dillon Market

An exhibit of graded potatoes arranged by County Agent Bernard Williams at Montana Mercantile displays U S No 1 U S Commercial and U S No 2 grades along with certified seed spuds from Irvine and Cottam. A salad potato showing is included and new state law requires grading for sale, making grower grading essential.

Former Dillon Resident F. W. Blankenbuhler Dies

F. W. Blankenbuhler founder and head of the Colorado Ranch Beg company died last Friday at a Denver hospital. He was 65 and had been active in Dillon's produce business from about 1894 to 1896.

Beaverhead Beavers blank Jefferson High in home opener

Beaverhead County High School eleven defeated Jefferson High of Boulder 27 to 0 in their first home game of the season at the fair grounds. Scorers included E. Smith D. Wheat Bob Lee and Gibbons with V Gibbons D Wheat and Bob Lee converting. Normal College Bulldogs beat Birch Creek CCC 26 to 6 at the same venue and a Dillon Independents versus CCC game was scheduled for Sunday November 3.

Margaret Lee Julion and Dee Phillips Wed at City Home

In a quiet ceremony at 9 30 in the morning at Mrs M J Allen's home on South Washington street, Miss Margaret Lee Julion and Dee Phillips married with Rev F X Lechner officiating. Attendants were Bertha May Jalson and Donald Julgon, sister and brother of the bride, and a wedding breakfast followed. The couple will reside in the city.

A car accident case involving Robert Shaw was settled out of court Tuesday afternoon. Details from the damaged report indicate a crash near the Idaho and Center streets intersection.
