After a drenching rain in Dillon the First Montana volunteers return home with snow on the mountains. A large greeting party in Dillon feeds 800 lunches and crowds celebrate at a packed depot. A grand parade and a triumph arch mark the welcome with officials and citizens marching to the theater for planned ceremonies.
Veterans of the Civil War and the Spanish American War gathered at the Meulen in Dillon for a banquet honoring senior veterans. The event featured Oyster Stew Roast Turkey and entrenched with patriotic quotes, speeches by Lieut. Charles Virden and Judge E.B. Conger, and notes of thanks to residents who supported the gathering.
Crowds fill the Dillon theater for a veterans event with Gov White and Hon Edwin Norris in attendance. The program honors Co E volunteers with a flag presentation, a concert directed by Prof Pasmore, and a free dance to close.
After Co. E disbanded, Captain Jensen recruited Co. E of the Volunteers. Enlistees include Fred J. Bird first lieutenant R W Fielder Edward Sheser David C Hines and many others from Dillon and Sheridan. Charles Virden won shoulder straps as first sergeant. most Dillon men returned from Manila, except Corporal R F Wells in Manila.
The Butte Miner’s special edition recounts Company E history. Maj Gen Anderson praised Captain Jensen and his men for their work last night in the bay. General MacArthur commended their courage and discipline facing insurgent forces.
