Joseph E Shaw of Wisdom Dies at Big Hole Basin Ranch
Beaverhead County mourns ranchman Joseph E Shaw longtime Wisdom resident and former county commissioner who died Tuesday at his ranch near Bristow after a lingering illness. Born August 25 1872 in Muncie Indiana he moved to Montana in youth and settled in the Big Hole basin in 1897. He served on the county board from 1916 to 1928 and was active in the Democratic party. Survived by his widow two sons Warren and Ivan of Wisdom several stepchildren and three grandchildren. Funeral Friday in Wisdom. Elusive Rocky Mountain goats bagged by hunters
Pete Westergaard and Herman Peterson returned to Dillon with two fine Rocky Mountain goats after several days in the west fork Bitterroot region. Westergaard’s goat weighed about 800 pounds with a seven and a half inch horn spread while Peterson’s weighed about 250 pounds with an eight inch spread. The men hunted at elevations around 7000 to 10000 feet and endured tough climbs before returning to camp after one night in the wild.

Duck Season Opens Three Days a Week in Montana
The migratory duck season in Montana runs October 5 to December 9 with Friday Saturday and Sunday hunting. Daily bag limit is 12 across species, with a 5 per species cap for listed ducks. two day possession limit is 24, 18 for the noted species. Shooting over baited areas after 3 pm is prohibited and some species such as Rudy and buffleheads are protected.
