County Fair Sets New Record for Excellent Exhibits and Program

Beaverhead county hosts a large fair with a semi centennial parade and full daily programs. Livestock displays include sheep cattle poultry swine and horses with prize stock from other regions. Awards list highlights best Belgian stallion best mare and top teams from Beaverhead county and local merchants exhibit merchandise and industry.

Death of Mrs. Edward Mooney Endears Dillon Family

Esteemed Beaverhead county resident Mrs. Edward Mooney died Friday at Barrett Hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Ireland at 76 she came to America with her family and resided in Beaverhead County for 39 years. Survived by husband Dan Mooney two daughters Mrs. Mary Henneberry and Mrs. W S Brown six grandchildren. Funeral held Monday at St Rose Church with Rev F X Lechner officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dillon Rotary Hears Boy Scout Work Progress

The Dillon Rotary club noon session featured Joe Wedum as chair man and a program on scouting dividends. Prof Earl Fairbanks praised Dillon as a leading town for Scout work, with Scoutmaster George Farrell detailing Troop 14 progress and J W Breeden and Captain Starr discussing football and character building. Fielding Graves reviewed Camp Lowlands activities, Rev F X Lechner urged continued support, and Ned Calhoun with Kenneth Barry attended as visitors.

Centennial Rancher Dies in Centennial Valley Accident

Charles C. Montgomery was fatally shot when a shotgun being pulled through a barb wire fence discharged in the Centennial valley. Coroner James Phillips ruled it accidental. Montgomery leaves a widow and three daughters. Funeral held at the ranch with Elk lodge honors.

Anaconda Beats Beavers in Opening Football Game

Anaconda defeats Beavers 20 to 0 in a first game. Kerr and Starr lead a strong Anaconda backfield with Melton at quarterback and Nygren excelling on offense. Beavers struggle with an inexperienced line but show some spark in several plays.

Robert Woodside Dies After Brief Illness

Robert Woodside 28 a Montana native and Dillon resident died Saturday evening at Barrett hospital after a brief pneumonia illness. He worked in farming earlier and in the city in recent years. Survived by his widow and three young children. Funeral held Monday at the Baptist church with Rev. R. O. Shannon officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery.

After a directors meeting in Dillon the State Bank & Trust company announced R. M. Barrett as president. J. E. Monroe becomes vice president and Sam Wilkinson of Helena is vice president and cashier. R. M. Stone is assistant cashier. The bank's board includes Barrett Monroe Roe Wilkinson and Jacobsen with capital stock of 100000.

Death claims Mrs. Regina Langdorf after long illness

Mrs. Regina Langdorf died at her home on Kentucky avenue after a lingering illness. She was 71, born in Akron Ohio and moved to Montana 24 years ago to Beaverhead county where she was greatly esteemed. Survived by her husband Sam W. Langdorf and eleven children, including Mrs. DeLong, Mrs. Robert Campbell, Mrs. John Wenger, and Mrs. Addie Barber with numerous grandchildren.

B A Smith Found Dead In His Home In Bamont

B A Smith 73 a longtime county resident was found dead at his North Washington street home last Saturday evening by neighbor Carl Nelson. Death appeared from a stroke of paralysis. He was born in Dixon Georgia and long worked on local ranches until ill health forced retirement. He registered as Bunion then Bumion and finally Bumont over the years. A brother in Polson survives.

Ranchman Injured as Bus Crashes Into Car

A Union Pacific bus struck a car driven by Robert Bidstrup several miles north of town Friday morning. Bidstrup sustained serious injuries from flying glass while his two daughters had minor bruises. The bus driver could not stop in time after Bidstrup backed into the highway. George Yost cut his hand when he broke a windshield during a pig race at the fair grounds Friday afternoon.

Power Line Boosts Beaverhead Mining Prospects

Announcement of a contract to Montana Power for a Dillon to Bannack electric line promises cheap power for mining growth in Beaverhead County. Three camps will staff Dillon Ten Mile Bannack with a substation at Kentucky Avenue, powering the I B Mining mill and related development.

Eliel Brothers mark 50 years in Dillon with anniversary party

Dillon observes the semi centennial of Eliel Bros in a town gathering last Saturday evening. Guests including Leonard and Frank Eliel heard a retrospective of old times as a large crowd extended congratulations. A birthday cake was cut by Miss Carolyn White and apple cider served by Mrs. Louise Taylor and Mrs. George Mudd.
