Talks for Farmers Institute at State Fair in Helena

The state fair at Helena, October 5 to 10, features an eight session Farmers Institute on the fair grounds. Prominent agriculturists will lecture, demonstrate butter making, and distribute Institute literature. Topics cover irrigation, livestock, horticulture, diversified farm products, poultry, and farm life.

Woolgrowers of Montana to Meet During State Fair

Hon T C Power urges a statewide woolgrowers meeting Oct 8 in Helena during the state fair. Officials offer room space at the Board of Sheep Commissioners and Helena Business Men's Association for attendees with aims to discuss sanitation, shearing rules, wool markets, and trading opportunities. Strong turnout hoped from all sections of the state.

Burnett Drowned in Henrys Lake During Boat Race

Monipa Mont Sept 28 William Shoemaker and Frank Burnett raced separate boats on Henrys Lake about forty miles southeast of Butte. Burnett disappeared after the boats collided. his remains were recovered at ten this morning. Shoemaker was rescued after being found sinking and unconscious. Burnett, longtime Jackson Hole guide, leaves a brother in Lander and is said to have a wife in Jackson Hole. No cause yet determined.

Doctor Dearborn Given Sixty-Day Jail Term

Doctor Dearborn was jailed for sixty days after pleading guilty to assaulting his 98 year old mother following a drunken argument. He was arrested by police and brought before Justice of the Peace Virmlon who imposed the sentence.

County Financial Standing Report From W. E. Bennett

W E Bennett of the Census Bureau visited Dillon to report on Beaverhead county finances through November 30 1902. The net debt stood at 27495 61 with total liabilities 129211 22 and available resources 101715 61. Taxes on property and liquor licenses raised 48756 82 toward receipts of 136830 50 with cash on hand 116644 11. Expenditures for 1902 totaled 117079 72 including capital outlay 34756 67 and maintenance 82323 05. From 1900 to 1903 county acreage rose 78798 to 284795 acres with exemptions totaling 125000 state 94 650 county 94650 churches 35325 and others.

Wheel rider Kaiser fears memory after waterworks ride mishap

H A Kaiser suffered a nerve-wracking accident while descending the hill toward a waterworks reservoir. His bicycle left his control at speed, a tire was punctured multiple times, and he walked the rest of the way after waiting hours for a ride back. The incident reportedly left him too nervous to write his own name.

Priest Van den Broeck Resigns for St Peter's Mission

Father V J van den Broeck who led the Catholic parish covering this county for five years will leave Monday for St Peter's Mission near Cascade. Health issues prompted the move. Rev Father Pudenz will assume leadership at St Peter's after the farewell mass Sunday morning.

Man Kidnaps Daughters After Domestic Strife

Fred Palmer, a recent arrival from Billings, took his 3 and 9 year old daughters after his wife attended an opera show. The couple had argued about separation. Mrs. Palmer seeks help from county officials to locate her husband and children as she plans to return to Michigan. It is believed Palmer boarded an early Greyling train with the children. The livery team was returned to Erwin stable by another party.

Wedded Wednesday in Presbyterian Church at Butte

Miss Braula Myrtle Powers and Casper Isadore Schultz wed at the First Presbyterian church with 250 guests. The ceremony featured a point d esprit gown, diamond sunburst gift, and a reception at Mrs. Powers’s home. The couple planned a Pacific coast tour before settling in Butte.

County districts report school age totals. unrest at railroad yards

With the exception of District No 10 all county districts report to County School Superintendent Miss Mae Rich the number of school age children. The report notes about 100 men patrolling B A P yards and the hillside track from Parrot to Moonlight mine with threats toward train crews and warnings of a road tie up. Escape and capture of a forger known as Hugh McBride

Chief Stone captured a man who gave the name Hugh McBride on Sunday and, after a brief jail escape Tuesday, McBride fled from the city jail by a doorless ceiling access. He is described as a 5 foot 9 inch, 35 to 40 year old forger who forged checks for Matt Barrett and Jerry Price and held up a sheep herder.
