Beaverhead county reports 2762 ballots cast at the November 4 general election, with 791 electors not voting and 3553 registered. Compared with 1928 presidential results, participation fell from 3200 of 3784 to 2762 of 3553, with 478 men and 318 women missing this year. Precinct 12 Dillon South suffered the largest loss, 108 men and 50 women, leaving 487 registered.
Mrs. Mary Hester Bond, Dillon pianist, and Fay's Hawaiians, a popular local dance orchestra, performed on Station KGIR Butte for a half hour Sunday program. Bond played pieces by noted composers while Fay, Lloyd, and Thompson led the orchestra in harmonious arrangements. Radio fans praised it as among the station's best broadcasts.
When the Montana state legislature opens in Helena on January 5 it faces several major items. Proposals include issuing tax anticipation warrants for highway funds, crime commission recommendations to revise judicial practices, reapportionment under new census figures, a school code by a commission, a plumbing code from crafts members, and allocating construction funds from a three million dollar bonding act approved at the recent election.
William Van Hoose pleaded guilty in justice court Tuesday to trapping muskrats in violation of state law. He was fined 27.50 by Judge Phillips. The arrest was made by Deputy State Game Warden Charles Price.
Longtime Dillon resident and noted photographer HH Weenink died last Friday in Los Angeles after a lingering illness. Born August 17, 1861 in Alto Wisconsin he moved to Dillon about 1888 and ran a studio for 38 years before retiring. Survived by his widow three daughters Mrs Pelzer Mrs Gosman and Mrs Moon and son Melvin. funeral held in Los Angeles with Mrs Gosman traveling to attend.
The second division of the Normal College Alumni will be entertained Monday evening December 1 at eight o'clock by Mrs. Frank Paul and Mrs. Walter Stamm at the home of Mrs. Stamm 9 East Orr Street.
Quinn A. Blackburn of Seattle, a former Byrd Antarctic expedition member and Bay of Whales surveyor, visited Dillon this week. He recently returned from a 22 month stay in polar regions, shared radio contact with the outside world, and narrated tales of southern adventures and the land of seasonal darkness.
The fifth annual praise service features the pageant Heart Pictures in the Lighted Fireplace by the Ellen May guild women with a choir. It will be at the Presbyterian church on Sunday evening November 30 at 7 30. A bank offering supports the guilds national missions and the public is invited.
A marriage license was issued by Fred Rife, district court clerk, on Tuesday afternoon to Russell W. Smith and Olga N. Burns. They were married by Judge George Opp at the courthouse.
The final session of the Scout leaders' training course in Dillon marked completion of the first year of a five year program. Local leaders praised participation, noted plans for a second year of twelve lectures, and announced a court of honor to publicly award ranks up to Star and Life. Community members were urged to attend.
An initiation ceremony was held Tuesday evening at the Masonic hall by Mizpah Chapter of the Eastern Star. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening.
At Hanson cafe the Dillon Rotary Club held a Monday meeting featuring a full turkey dinner. Miss Violet Eastman spoke on inviting women to sessions to share ideas and Rotary spirit. Violin selections by William Bates and Marion Wahl complemented remarks on gym facilities and Christmas tree setup. Visitors included Milt Nay, Ross Nay, John Peterson, and Frank Pendleton.
Mrs. Jessie Cattanach Poindexter of Dillon Beaverhead county died at her daughter’s home in Harlowton after a lingering illness following major surgery in a Butte hospital. Born 1864 in Ripon Wisconsin she moved to Oregon and later Dillon where she was active in literary musical circles and church work. Survived by four children three grandchildren and several in-laws, the funeral was held at St James Episcopal with Mizpah Chapter Eastern Star in charge.
The Montana State Normal college chose six members for the regular debate team and three alternates after fall tryouts. Members include Evelyn Adams Corvallis Aileen Brady Butte Gertrude Conwell Big Timber Ruth Jones Wibaux Clifford Laity Butte and Joseph Murphy Jordan. Alternates are Harmon Graeter Deer Lodge William Wolverton Whitehall and Mildred Wilson Red Lodge. Joseph Murphy is the veteran on the team.
Burles and Taylor, contractors for the new residential lighting, are completing work this week and expect to have the current turned on within a few days. The posts are marbleite construction and will enhance the appearance of the city district where installed.
Motorists report the Dillon to Jackson route easily passable without chains after several days of travel. The Monida pass is also in good condition with daily car traffic reported.
National Wool Growers Association plans its convention December 9 to 12 in Colorado Springs Colorado. Northern Pacific offers a fare and a half round trip for North Dakotans and Montanans from December 5 to 9 with return by December 17, open to public and wool men.
