State Land Board rulings on price per acre for quarter sections

Attorney General Albert J. Galen rules that when selling a quarter section the board may accept a bid of $10 or more per acre for the entire tract if the total price meets or exceeds the quarter section's appraised value. If selling smaller 40-acre tracts, each must fetch at least $10 per acre, even if some subplots are appraised below $10, so long as the overall quarter section price satisfies the law. The decision rests on Section 37 of chapter 147 laws of 1919 and the enabling act dictating minimum prices per acre.
