County 4-H Clubs Hold Meet Here

Four dozen girls from Dillon and Armstead, Dell, and Riverside clubs attended a county 4-H jamboree at Bagley school. Skits by four clubs, a pot luck lunch, then games followed. Style show awarded ribbons for apron, washable dress, wool dress with several club members earning pins and certificates.

Survey Highlights Birch Creek CCC Work Last Summer

A Beaverhead forest report by W. B. Willey details Birch Creek CCC camp projects, including 11.25 miles of new roads and 50 miles maintained. Roads connect Boot lake Pear lake and Brown’s lake areas, with planned loop routes and additional work at Vigilante Experiment Station and Tower Mountain. CCC crews also built ski slides aiding winter recreation and set up fire control stations while handling 12 fire calls.

Forester Leaves for Missoula Meeting

L A Vanairsdale of Beaverhead National Forest has left for Missoula to attend an accident prevention and first aid training school slated November 6 to 18 at the regional head quarters remount station near Missoula. A Red Cross national representative will oversee first aid and accident prevention with aims including fire control technique guard training and air delivery of supplies. Upon return he will be qualified to conduct training schools in the Beaverhead area.

County AAA Meeting Set for November 20th

County AAA delegates gathered in Dillon as Bernie Williams announced the 1940 county convention to elect officers. Delegates include J C Ferguson Reichle Floyd Kenison Dell Luther Smith Dillon and Mark Clemon. Newly elected community committeemen listed for Reichle Dell and Armstead.

Education Week from November 5 to 11 is observed locally with programs in Eagles grade school Beaverhead County High School and Normal College. The Bagley building committee plans assemblies plays and readings with final program on November 10 led by Normal College faculty.

Dillon Couple to Mark Golden Anniversary in Dillon

Mr and Mrs Thomas Sherman Sapp long time Dillon residents celebrate their golden anniversary. They wed in Dillon on November 13 1889 just after Montana statehood. Their family of three daughters and a son remain in Dillon as the couple nears the state centennial.

Taxpayers receive annual Beaverhead county tax notices

Beaverhead county mailed 287 tax notices totaling $317638.48 to property owners. First installment due November 30. Some taxpayers have already paid. Fewer taxpayers on rolls than in past years as landowners without car licenses pay later in January. About 3600 taxpayers total.

Beaverhead county's newly organized chapter of Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers held a membership dinner and dance at the St. James guild hall Monday night. George Metlen spoke for the pioneers and Jack Selway Jr urged Montana's fiftieth statehood anniversary.

Great Falls Firm Wins Dillon Twin Bridges Road Contract

Harold M. Warner of the Dillon Chamber hears that the Montana Highway Commission let a $24,870.40 contract to L. A. Woodward Construction Co. of Great Falls for a 3.441 mile section of the Dillon to Twin Bridges road in Beaverhead County. Construction aims to add drainage structures and a treated timber stockpass on section B beginning at the end of the current graded stretch and extending northeast. Chamber members express elation after long efforts for action on the road.
