Runaway Coal Cars Strike Train Killing Two Men
A Lima yard derail switch error led two loaded coal cars to roll onto the main line and crash into No 4 passenger train near Kidd Station Sunday at about 4 am. Engineer William Purdy and Fireman Eugene Bare were killed. inquests found deaths caused by the runaway cars with no party held responsible.
