Dillon Celebrates Volunteers Welcome Home

Dillon residents staged a massive patriotic reception for Montana volunteers returning from the war. Bands and cannons, lanterns and bunting lit a long night of cheers and farewells as every brigade paraded through town amid abundant food, thanks, and a strong show of communal pride. The piece closes noting Thomas J. Riley’s life sentence for murder in Deer Lodge.
