Four miners sink a 100 ft shaft below Argenta as the Dillon Argenta Mining Co led by E L Hall reports a promising lead with a 30 ft depth. Early assays show 9 percent copper 6 ounces silver and $6 gold per ton, with a widening ore body and a 50 percent copper vein found in surface rock. The Southern Cross Mining Co board meeting in Dillon outlines plans to work five claims in Idaho's Coeur d Alene district and push the North Star shaft to 100 ft with future machinery. The Kent mine yields a two foot track level ore assaying 225 ounces silver per ton while the Butte Dillon Developments team runs a winze and eyes June shipping. A discussion on blind horses closes the note.

Rossini’s Diamond Watch Given by Charles X Replaced

In 1824 Charles X presented Rossini with a diamond studded repeating watch playing two Rossini melodies. Bologna could not clean it and the watch was sent to Fa Repean for repair, where a fire destroyed it. Watchmaker Plivee replaced it with a second watch whose diamonds were fake. Rossini wore it for life and it later passed to a relative and then an English buyer. It is rumored to contain an enamel portrait of Rossini as he was in 1824.
