Largest gold nugget tale from Deadwood gulch found in 1865
Ed Rising recalls a colossal discovery from Deadwood gulch near Snow Shoe gulch in Deer Lodge county on October 19 1865 weighing thirteen and a quarter pounds with nine by four by two inch dimensions. It sold for 3224 80 to Tutt and Donnell of Helena at 16 per ounce though gold was $18. The find prompted a scramble with other claimants and later fame tied to San Francisco and a Paris exposition.
