Two young men James Daniels and Philip Dillon fought a pistol duel with old muskets at seventy five yards on the river bank above Plymouth. Daniels fired first winding up Dillon wounded in the hand and face as seven shot struck him. Daniels was also injured and a surgeon attended.
Ernest L. Dixon, who killed Jack Embree near Laramie Wyoming last Friday, was released after a coroner's inquest ruled the homicide self defense. Testimony said Embree went armed to Dixon's ranch to kidnap Dixon's wife.

The Albatross departs San Francisco June 1 to study seal fisheries near Belting and Alaska, with investigators aboard to examine salmon fisheries under a new congressional resolution.
