Roenggrer March 25 Special connects Woodmen lodge planning a dance in the new hall to be finished in weeks. Miss Grace Baker, school superintendent, visited the local school Tuesday as other locals travel between Butte and Marysville. A quiet St Patrick era in a mining town with social events and travels among residents is noted.
Special correspondence from Lima reports the railroad building new stock yards a distance north of the present yards. Other notes include hospital treatment for Alex Singer in Salt Lake, local social events, staff moves, and residents plans.
Miss Edith Decker will become postmistress in place of J W Scott who has resigned. The Tribune notes the appointment as part of local correspondence. Weather indicates early spring with farm activity rising. Allen Merritt and wife pass through toward Dillon while Richard Ames seeks rheumatism treatment in Hot Springs Utah. Sparks from a passing engine caused a small field fire near Bocott and Decker. minimal damage. Cantata The Rose Maiden by the Dillon home drama group set for next Saturday night attracts town interest. D Me Shields of Dubois toured the town Thursday. Miss Edith DeSker, long in business college in the east, expected to return Saturday.
T B Landers returns from the Ajax mine with two gold bricks valued about 2500 dollars from a twenty two day run. The Ajax project plans to add five more stamps and build an aerial tramway 4500 feet to improve ore transport once roads thaw.
The Ajax mine in Beaverhead County shows promise as a rich venture with ore values around 125 dollars daily at the mill and concentrates averaging 26 to 40 percent lead plus 7 to 9 ounces silver and 25 dollars gold per ton. Foreman T B Landers notes the vein averages four feet wide near surface and nine feet wide in the active shoot with three tunnels and a milling operation running daily. Gold bricks shown in Dillon were later sent to Boise after viewing at the State Bank.
A quiet wedding took place in Mrs. MonDermit’s lodging room Wednesday at 8 o’clock. Reudy Underwood and Ollie Oarleton wed with Rev. R. P. Smith officiating. The bride’s sister witnessed along with a few friends. the couple recently arrived from Missouri on the 14th inst. Underwood works for Mr. Jenkins at the Peckarm.
A Sunday afternoon marriage at the bride’s parents home unites Miss Rosolda Shollone and John A. McComb with Rev. R. P. Smith officiating. Attendants Grant Kennison and Ruby Page. The couple, well known in Dillon, plan a future home in the Rife addition after a dinner following the ceremony.
The Beaverhead County Teachers Institute runs five days starting Monday March 30 at the public school assembly hall. County Superintendent Mae Rich has organized a full program with lectures by W W Welch H H Swain M A Walker and other instructors plus musical sections and talks on school room decoration ventilation and nature study.
Hon. Henry M. Blake seated in Dillon for testimony in the federal suit Beaverhead Canal Co. versus Oil Electric Light and Power Co. Judge Knowles ordered Blake to preside, amid tensions over water rights and lease histories linked to the electric plant. The case tests who controls Beaverhead water for irrigation and city power.
George Pollock, alleged murderer of Richard Martin, was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Virmillion and pleaded not guilty. A preliminary trial is set for 2 o clock tomorrow with attorney W S Barbour to represent Pollock. Also, Mrs Mary Simms of Meaderville was accidentally shot by her young son on Saturday. the severity of her wound is not yet known.
The Standaher ranch twelve miles north of Dillon was sold by Will Standaher to his son for 21000 then transferred last week to John Malesich of Butte for 24000 who moved his family there and took charge. Will Standaher and wife returned to Dillon residence.
A non partisan caucus will be held at the courthouse Monday evening to nominate candidates for city offices. The April election is expected to be lively with an unusually heavy registration of 317.
The Manse society will stage Anant Jerusha's Quilting Party a farce at Dillon Theatre on Saturday evening April 4. The play, by the same author as Old Maid's Convention, promises strong humor and aims to fund a new Presbyterian carpet. Seats are 500 and 866 in number.
