Skeleton of an Extinct Mammal Found Near Dillon
In 1892 a Dillon principal recalls a geology class that hunted fossils near Dillon Montana. They describe loxolophodon remains from Lake Hickman beaches and discuss Cretaceous to Tertiary climate shifts, inland seas, and two ancient lakes named Lake Stuart and Lake Hickman. The skull, 14 inches, and tusks about 10 inches, point to a rhinoceroslike herbivore with two horn pairs and tusks.
