Montana Legislature Nears Adjourment After Turbulent Session
Special to the Tribune from Helena reports Montana's 27th legislative session is set to adjourn this Thursday after signing of reapportionment by Gov. Sam C. Ford. Many members expect to lose seats in 1943, with 12 farewell departures anticipated as the house shrinks to 90 from 102. Key acts included moving department funds to the general fund and creating a seven member committee to study state boards for economy. An appropriation of 20 000 dollars funds the committee with a report due by November 1942, while other measures like gambling liquor and a 30 day divorce bill faced kills. The unified drivers license bill stalled in the senate and a plan to move the primary date back to September was defeated to avoid hampering harvest.
