Four Butte Residents Escape Ice Water Car Crash

Four Butte residents registered at the Andrus hotel were rescued after their Hudson sedan plunged into icy water at a river bend north of town. The driver failed to turn, wheels skidded, the car overturned, and occupants escaped with a plank and improvised hole cut in the top. They warmed at the Standard Lumber office, then returned to the hotel before moving on to Butte.

CHAS Bock Shot by Officers After Refusing Surrender

Charles Bock refused to surrender to police and was shot during the confrontation. He died with a gun in hand and his body reportedly pierced by multiple bullets as officers closed in.

Sheriff Orr Shot in Failed Arrest at Tom Warner Cabin

Carpenter Charles Bock age 67 fired on Sheriff Orr and officers during attempted arrest on North Pacific street. Orr was wounded in the shoulder as the door was broken and Bock fired through it. Officers returned fire, using most of their ammunition before reinforcements arrived. Continued on Page 5.

Beaverhead Fair association approves an autumn county fair with a new permanent livestock pavilion. about $12,000 funds cover building costs and premiums. A Beaverhead county survey shows Hansen Packing of Butte spent over $500,000 on beef in 60 days. The plant fed 5,000 tons of hay in 1927 and sources cattle from Montana ranches, shipping by truck to avoid long overland drives and carload constraints. Montana pork and beef are praised for high quality, with state grass and climate cited as factors.

Tragedy in Butte shocks local community

Mrs. James T. Fisher believed shot by her husband at the Great Northern freight depot last Sunday, then killed himself. The couple had just met privately. found dead about 10 o clock with a .32 pistol nearby. Fisher survived by a mother in Butte, a three year old son, and sister Mrs. Main of Dillon. Funeral held in Butte on Wednesday.

Dillon Rallies To Reach State Tourney In Narrow Victory

In Bozeman on February 29 Dillon defeated Big Timber 26 to 22 to clinch the sixteenth invitation to the state basketball tournament. Big Timber led 11 7 at halftime and 17 15 after three quarters before Dillon's late surge sealed the win.
