Montana Freight Rates Seen Unfairly High by 40 Percent
Montana growers from Kalispell to Culbertson press the state railroad commission for a forty percent cut on intrastate grain and fruit rates. Testimony claims current charges favor distant markets, with apples and potatoes priced higher in state than in neighboring regions. Comparisons show Montana traffic density and costs per mile, while officials note main line mileage and investment differences with North Dakota and Minnesota.
