A Duel of De Vigny and La Anita in Occupied Mexico
Captain Francois de Vigny narrates his exploits during Maximilian's rule in Mexico. A gossiping circle claims La Anita lures French officers to death or desertion, while De Vigny tries to relay her fate to the beauty herself. He confronts Madrella, Lopez, and Juarez in a web of impersonation and intrigue as he battles death and loyalty. The plot follows duels, disguises, and political peril across Cuernavaca and Juarez.
