Retirement of Dr. D. K. Pearsons Ends Era of Philanthropy
Dr. D. K. Pearsons of Chicago retires from active life after distributing about 6 million dollars to 47 small colleges, living on $6,000 a year at Algadale sanitarium. Born 1820 in Bradford Vermont, he spent decades building wealth through real estate and, in retirement, plans to monitor the colleges he aided and pursue gentle activities with his wife. He urges young men to seek education, follow the Ten Commandments, sleep eight hours, and avoid worry and extremes.

Harvard Elms Fall To Insect Invaders In Yard Clearance
Workmen uproot the first of five ancient Harvard elms in the college yard as elm bark borer destroys trees. Superintendent Walter S. Burke says more elms over fifty years old will likely be removed this summer, with one replacement oak planted for each tree felled.
