Borax Great for Nuisance Control of Flies
The Department of Agriculture reports that sprinkling borax daily on horse manure prevents fly breeding without harming manure’s fertilizer value. Experiments at Arlington Farm and New Orleans show 0.62 to 0.95 pounds of borax or calcined colemanite can stop maggots and eggs from producing flies in eight bushels of manure, with two ounces sufficient for garbage cans or refuse piles.
