Beaverhead Mines and the Hecla Company Legacy
In James A. McKnight's Mines of Montana Beaverhead county centers on the Hecla mine at Glendale led by Henry Knippenberg. The Hecla company, organized in Indianapolis in 1877, shows strong dividends and extensive holdings including Atlantis and Cleopatra. Knippenberg’s rise from clerk to director and county official underscores Beaverhead’s mining vigor and the district’s budding districts and mills.
