Leaf Roller Damages Bitter Root Orchards
A Montana State College study by W. S. Regan reports the fruit-tree leaf-roller outbreak in Bitter Root valley orchards and outlines control measures using miscible oils. Dorm oil and Universal Dormant Oil are most effective. 16 gallons per 200 gallon tank is minimum, 18 to 20 gallons for severe infestations. Early spring application is advised, but 100 percent control is not yet possible.

Feeding Young Turkeys A Practical Rearing Guide
The article outlines early poult feeding regimens. Start with milk soaked stale bread, egg, cracker crumb mix and dandelions, fed every two hours for two days. Then transition to a grain mix of wheat oats and barley. At two weeks, switch to cornmeal mash with ground grain and a bit of finely cut meat, three times daily in runs or twice daily when free.
Free Choice Mash System Yields Higher Egg Production
A Beltsville Maryland USDA experiment shows hens produce the most eggs when allowed to choose their mash. The preferred self selected mix for Leghorns is 66 parts cornmeal 26 parts meat scrap 4 parts wheat bran 4 parts wheat middlings. General purpose breeds respond to a mash with more bran and ground oats and less meat scrap.
