The great railroad strike was claimed off by Debs in Chicago but this evening the contest appears to resume with renewed energy. Debs and labor leaders propose a compromise to the General Managers' Association, which is rejected, leaving the dispute a fight to a finish.
July 13 Cureyco Debs convened directors at the Reveere House for a half hour of talks with strike leaders. He declined to officially end the strike, while Washington backing for arbitration loomed, and Mayor Hopkins returned with a liberal yet nonrecognition proposition. Debs said the strike was not off and would report to the A R U executive board.
A freight train derailed a small bridge near South Enied after the bridge was sawed. Brakeman Cordera and painter Harry Lyon were slightly injured. The wrecking is blamed on Round Point trouble as crowds tear up tracks at noon.
The Union Pacific and Montana Union offer round trip tickets to Montana at one fare for the trip. Tickets go on sale Saturday and Sunday with return valid until the following Monday. Also announced are annual Shriners Imperial Council in Denver July 24 to 27 and League of American Wheelmen in Denver August 13 to 18. One fare $40 for the various meetings. sale limited to three days before event and final limit thirty days.
