Dillon Fourth of July celebration draws crowds and fireworks fail
The 1886 Dillon observance drew 350 to Barrett’s Grove and 125 more by wagon from Bannack and nearby areas. Mosquitoes plagued the event, the Dillon Glee Club performed, Miss Coyne read the Declaration, and Dan T. Chapman gave the oration. A fireworks display failed and a church corner stone was laid at St James Episcopal with Rev. Gregory Prout and Rev. C O Tillotson officiating. A new Dillon church project was announced.
