Special correspondence from Alice P. O. reports Fourth of July happenings in Dillon and surrounding areas. Citizens visited, parties camped, fireworks enjoyed, and locals like Mr Jules Guyaz celebrated. Also notes illness of Mrs Harkness improving, the Alice post office to close on the 15th, and a petition seeking an office at Amenville amid local grievances against a Horse Prairie cattleman blamed for the office closure.
Miss Cc 7rd Pearl James of Grayling shopped in Dillon Friday. Mrs. M B Henneberry and Miss Henneberry visited Dillon Friday. Wm Bracken of Idaho visited his mother Mrs McManemey for several days. Mrs. Martin McManemey entertains her daughter Mrs John Lavery of Salem Idaho. Daniel Mooney of Grasshopper spends weeks in the northern part of the state. Mrs. D Nelson and daughter Edith, back from Nebraska, visit Mr and Mrs M A Henneberry. Ralph Burke leaves Dillon after weeks in the canyon. J Bailey of Lima visits Dillon. Thos Haw of Rattlesnake buys thirty geldings from M B Henneberry. Mosquitos arrive as latest canyon visitors. Road Supervisor Bray has done much road work. Most canyon folk celebrate the Fourth. Peter Promelshackle, an aged prospector, missing from the canyon. seen at warm springs with rumored money, feared harmed. Wm Nelson spent Sunday with Grayling friends.
Mrs J H Whalen announces a closing-out sale with hats and ribbons at half price. Embroidery silk 25 cents per dozen, knitting silk 15 and 90 cents a spool, Zephyr 15 cents a package, ostrich wool 20 cents a ball.
Thousands witnessed the Montana capitol corner stone laid by the grand lodge of Masons. The procession moved along Main Street with bands, banners, and fireworks as Gov. Smith and ex-Gov. Toole addressed the crowd.
Two graduates Miss Bessie Farrell of Virginia City and Miss Phoebe Comfort of Twin Bridges presented papers that impressed the Dillon audience. Farrell argued education shapes the whole person with directed thought while Comfort outlined manual training as essential for guiding children toward desirable future adults. The program featured strong music, a dignified invocation, and a notable address by President Ganders.
