Sugar beet enterprise urged by Beaverhead farmers leaders

Sugar Beet Industry Sparks Growth in Ontrada Valley California

The American Beet Sugar Company has powered Ontrada's growth over eleven years with a $2 000 000 plant. $10 000 000 spent on beets. $3 300 000 on labor. Local ranch labor costs exceed $1 500 monthly on Patterson and Springville ranches. Land once priced at 10 to 20 per acre now yields a season net of 32 42 per acre, with 62 46 per acre during beet running. Last season 11 767 acres yielded 128 801 tons of beets and 580 000 bags of sugar were produced. Beet sugar content averaged 19 percent, about 18 percent over eleven years.

Dillon Postoffice Aims for Free Delivery Record in 1909

Dillon's post office reports 1908 totals of 10 245.97 in receipts and 68 480.70 in money orders with 34 678.31 paid out, 3 300 registered packages sent and 2 610 received. The office remains $245.95 ahead of the required amount to secure free delivery by next July if current trends hold. Grace Lamont, postmaster, urges continued activity.
