Death of John S. Baker longtime Beaverhead clerk
John Sherman Baker, Beaverhead County clerk and recorder for 28 years, died at his North Pacific street home after a lingering illness. Born 1857 in Plattsburg New York he served 80 years in railroading before retiring. He married Mary Theobald in 1880 and leaves eleven children, nine living, with a golden anniversary celebrated a month prior. Continued on page eight.

Ground work will start in spring with a pump engine installed and another pump and drag line planned. Dillon area notes report Albert Baker selected by county commissioners as clerk. The obituary recalls Cyrus R. Byther pioneer of Beaverhead County died December 27, 1980 in San Bernardino California and buried December 30 beside his wife in Mountain View Cemetery. Byther held I.O.O.F. membership for 52 years and was affiliated with Ages Lodge No. 141 Roberts Idaho. He spent most of his life in Butte Dillon and Crabtree. His regret was not returning to Montana to end his days among old friends.

County Board Elects Gosman Chairman for Two Years
At the January board of county commissioners meeting Albert J Baker was named county clerk after a decade as deputy to the late John S Baker. C C Gosman was elected chairman for the next two years and W B Hartwig was installed as commissioner succeeding A L Anderson. Dr W H Stephan won the county physician contract for 1931. The next meeting is February 2 and all claims must be in the clerk’s office by the preceding Wednesday.

Williams faces prison term for Eliel store burglary

Annual Parish Meeting Is Held at Guild Hall
